Joe Smith Company was established in 1911 in Pittsburg, Kansas by company namesake, Joe Smith.  The company began by selling tobacco and candy products in southeast Kansas.  In 2000 the company expanded its offering to become a full line convenience store distributor.  The Joe Smith Company was owned by three generations of the Smith family until it was sold in 2002 to Kelly and Connie Kays.
